EHS BUSINESS PARTNER
Job Description
Job Description
Drive Safety. Influence Culture. Build Operational Excellence.
At Fuji Vegetable Oil, safety is more than regulatory compliance—it's a core business value. We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and understands how to build strong relationships while holding teams accountable.
This position is ideal for someone who has successfully supported manufacturing operations, understands food manufacturing or edible oils, and enjoys balancing strategic initiatives with hands-on involvement on the production floor. You'll be expected to partner with leaders, coach employees, solve problems, and actively participate in day-to-day operations—not simply observe them.
We're looking for a trusted business partner who isn't afraid to put on PPE, climb stairs, investigate issues firsthand, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with operations to improve safety performance.
What You'll Do
Partner with Operations
- Serve as the primary safety partner to Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Laboratory, Engineering and Distribution.
- Build credibility with leaders by providing practical, business-focused safety solutions.
- Coach supervisors and managers on accountability, employee engagement, risk reduction and regulatory compliance.
- Drive a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and daily interaction with employees.
- Challenge the status quo while building positive working relationships across all departments.
Safety Leadership
- Lead hazard identification, risk assessments and mitigation efforts throughout the facility.
- Conduct routine floor observations, behavioral safety coaching and operational audits.
- Participate in daily production meetings and operational planning.
- Lead incident investigations utilizing Root Cause Analysis and develop sustainable corrective actions.
- Analyze trends, identify leading indicators and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement safety programs that improve operational performance while ensuring compliance.
Regulatory & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA and applicable federal, state and local regulations.
- Maintain environmental permits, inspections and compliance documentation.
- Oversee contractor safety and regulatory compliance.
- Support Process Safety Management (PSM) principles where applicable.
- Manage emergency response planning, fire protection systems and emergency preparedness programs.
Manufacturing Support
- Support confined space, hot work, lockout/tagout and other critical safety programs.
- Monitor permit systems and verify compliance through field observations.
- Participate in equipment reviews, process changes and capital projects to ensure safe design.
- Work closely with laboratory and quality teams to safely manage chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Assist with industrial hygiene initiatives including exposure monitoring, PPE assessments and ergonomic improvements.
Training & Development
- Develop and facilitate engaging safety training programs.
- Coach leaders on effective safety conversations and accountability.
- Mentor employees while reinforcing safe work practices.
- Promote employee involvement through safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking an experienced manufacturing safety professional who understands that the best safety leaders earn credibility by being visible, approachable and willing to work alongside the team.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience in manufacturing.
- Experience supporting food manufacturing, edible oils, chemical processing, consumer products, or other highly regulated production environments.
- Experience working in facilities with laboratories, quality systems and chemical management.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, environmental compliance and risk management.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
- Experience developing and implementing safety management systems.
- Comfortable interacting with employees from the production floor through executive leadership.
- Proven ability to influence without relying solely on authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field preferred.
- OSHA 30 (General Industry) required; OSHA 510/511 preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, GSP or CIH are highly desirable.
- First Aid, CPR and AED certification (or ability to obtain).
- Experience with environmental permitting, fire protection systems and emergency response planning.
The Person Who Will Excel
You are someone who:
- Leads with humility while maintaining high standards.
- Is comfortable making difficult decisions and holding others accountable.
- Builds trust with frontline employees and leadership alike.
- Enjoys solving operational problems—not just enforcing rules.
- Is highly visible on the production floor.
- Can move easily between the boardroom and the manufacturing floor.
- Believes the best safety professionals are business partners first and compliance experts second.
- Isn't afraid to get dirty, climb equipment, investigate incidents firsthand or spend the majority of the day in the plant.
Why Fuji Vegetable Oil?
At Fuji, you'll have the opportunity to influence a growing manufacturing operation where your ideas matter. You'll partner directly with operational leaders to strengthen safety culture, improve processes and help employees go home safely every day.
We offer:
- Competitive compensation
- Semi-annual bonus program
- Industry-leading 401(k) contribution
- Medical, Dental & Vision benefits
- Paid Time Off and paid holidays
- Career development opportunities
- Collaborative leadership team
- The opportunity to make a measurable impact across the organization
