Verification and Validation Engineer - Atlanta, GA

As a Verification & Validation Engineer , you will support the delivery of cutting-edge CBTC railway signaling systems and ensure complex signaling solutions meet all technical, operational, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with development teams, assessors, and project stakeholders across the full system lifecycle. Your expertise will ensure rigorous compliance with industry standards and safety integrity levels. Key Responsibilities• Develop Verification & Validation (V&V) plans and reports for CBTC and rail signaling systems, aligned with U.S. regulatory expectations (e.g., FRA, FTA)
• Review system requirements for clarity, operational suitability, environmental compliance, and consistency with intended use within U.S. rail transit operating practices.
• Evaluate development processes for compliance with applicable U.S. and international standards, including IEEE 1474 (CBTC), AREMA Communications & Signals standards, and relevant system guidelines (e.g., FTA Safety & Security Certification).
• Assess the completeness, accuracy, and traceability of test procedures, test evidence, and verification tools used throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure all V&V activities are executed in accordance with the chosen system safety methodology (e.g., MIL-STD-882E adapted for rail, FTA System Safety Program Plan requirements).
• Perform audits, inspections, design reviews, and documentation reviews at designated project milestones.
• Provide formal concurrence or non-concurrence for system releases based on safety, compliance, and verification results.
• Support technical discussions with project stakeholders, regulators, transit agencies, and independent third-party assessors.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related technical field from an accredited U.S. institution.• 4-5 years of experience as a Verification and Validation Engineer in the U.S. railway or transit industry, preferably in signaling, train control, or safety-critical system development; experience with CBTC or PTC systems is a strong advantage.
• Proficiency in verification and validation methodologies commonly used in safety-critical industries, including selection of appropriate validation strategies for complex, distributed systems.
• Ability to develop and assess requirements compliance evidence, hazard mitigation strategies, and overall system fitness-for-purpose in accordance with U.S. system safety processes (e.g., FTA SSC, hazard logs, safety case development).
• Experience with safety-relevant system certification in the U.S. rail environment (e.g., FRA approvals, FTA Safety & Security Certification).
• Familiarity with relevant U.S. and international standards, such as IEEE 1474, IEEE 1558, AREMA C&S Manual, IEC 61508/EN 50716/EN 50129.
• Experienced in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting complex, networked systems in operational rail environments is preferred.
• Fluent in English (both written and verbal).
• Interest in innovative rail technologies, automation, and advanced digital signaling solutions.
