Staff Attorney (Gwinnett County Office)
Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Staff Attorney to focus on advice and brief service at the Gwinnett County Courthouse located in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law. The Staff Attorney will dedicate two days per week providing high-volume advice and brief services at the Gwinnett County Courthouse Law Library in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The fast-paced library clinic offers eligible residents walk-in access to an attorney for advice on family, housing, consumer, and public benefits law, among others. Library duties include client consultations, assistance with pro se pleadings, and connecting individuals with other community resources.
The Staff Attorney will spend the remaining three days per week working from the Norcross office, following up on matters related to the Law Library work and managing a small caseload of cases evaluated at the library for potential full representation.
Qualifications:
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia and a minimum of 3 years of litigation experience in family law are required.
- Experience in other civil areas, including housing or consumer law, is preferred.
- Applicants must possess excellent legal writing skills, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Applicants must have the ability to work effectively in both team and individual settings, adaptability, and an appreciation for diversity.
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and prior work with low-income people is highly valued.
- Proficiency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish, is highly valued.
Salary and Benefits:
- The salary is $65,350 , but will vary depending on work experience. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
- Generous fringe benefits, including 16 paid holidays in 2026, 6 weeks of paid time off (accruing at 2.5 days per month) in the first two years, and 6 weeks of parental leave (12 weeks after one year).
