Schedule 36 hours per week- second shift
Gross Salary 1922.80
Contract 13 weeks
Acute Medicine Unit:
- Provides age-appropriate preoperative, post-operative and medical
- Unit/Role SPECIFIC PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES care for medical-surgical patients.
- Monday – Friday, typically 11a – 7:30p but may have to com in early/stay late
- No holidays, call, weekends, or overnights
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Registered Professional Nurse independently plans and provides professional nursing care to patients in accordance with physician orders and established guidelines, and in accordance with the scope of practice as defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act.
The American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Nursing: Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, 3rd Edition (2015), provides a definition of nursing as:
“Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations.”
Furthermore, the scope of practice of the registered nurse and the corresponding standards and competencies are dependent on the nurse’s education, experience, role and population served (ANA, Scope and Standards of Practice, 2015, p 2.). The practice of professional nursing utilizes ANA’s Scope and Standards Practice:
- Clinical Knowledge and Practice: Assessment, Diagnosis, Outcomes Identification, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation; Clinical Information Systems; Patient Care Technology.
- Professional Practice: Communication, Culturally Congruent Practice, Ethics, Professional Practice Evaluation and Resource Utilization
- Leadership: Collaboration, Community Involvement, and Environmental Health
- Professional Development: Education of Self and Others, Expansion of Knowledge, Advancement of Practice, Contribution to the Professional/Clinical Specialty
- Evidence-Based Practice, Quality and Research: Evidence-based Practice, Nursing Research, Quality of Practice, Patient Satisfaction Scores, External Reporting/Benchmarks
The Northside Hospital Staff RN III manages care of an assigned group of patients in accordance with the philosophy and policies of Northside Hospital. Northside Hospital Staff Registered Nurse positions are based on a sequential progression from a novice nurse to an expert. The job descriptions for Staff RN I to Staff RN VI therefore imply that a nurse who is employed at a specific level possesses the knowledge, skills, competencies and critical thinking abilities of all prior levels. As an example, the job description for Staff RN III includes all provisions of Staff RN I and II in addition to the specific requirements of the Staff RN III position.
STAFF RN III:
The Staff RN III position is part of the NSH Nursing Excellence Track (NEXT) program. Staff RN IIIs are competent nurses and practice professional nursing in various clinical areas and settings
PRIMARY NURSING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Staff RN III
- Demonstrates competency in clinical practice; self-directed in goal-setting in management of complex patients and families; utilizes the nursing process and is skilled at adapting care to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Provides safe, competent patient care; is knowledgeable of current patient care guidelines; communicates with peers, colleagues, providers and others.
- Independently implements the nursing process for patients and families; integrates unit- and service-wide evidence-based practice resources into clinical practice.
- Self-sufficient, competent and safe in the operation of unit-based patient care technology; efficiently operates the organization’s computerized information systems; continuously develops personal practice competencies, skills and knowledge.
- Delegates care where appropriate.
- Serves as a preceptor for new employees and students.
- Creates personal goals for lifelong learning and professional growth.
- Conducts self-assessment of performance and identifies own learning needs
- Identifies ethical issues in practice and takes appropriate action.
- Refers to, consults with, and makes provision for continuity of care with other health care providers.
- Uses evidence-based guidelines and policies to guide professional practice.
- Participates in established quality improvement studies and/or activities for patient safety and quality measures; assists in continual readiness activities.
